More Graded Success for Kalanisi

Kalanisi enjoyed yet another National Hunt Graded success recently with the victory of Barizan in the Grade 3 Swinton Hurdle at Haydock on Saturday 11th May. The first Graded race of the new season was won in fine style by the former Grade 1 winning juvenile hurdler.

The Evan Williams trained seven year old was recording his 11th career success and took his earnings to over £200,000 by winning this prestigious prize. In the capable hands of Paul Moloney, Barizan tracked long- time leader Ruler Of All until after the fourth last when he took up the running and with good jumps over the last three hurdles he held on in his trademark determined style to win by half a length from the favourite Mr Mole.

Bred by His Highness The Aga Khan's Studs, Barizan won as a two year old on the flat whilst trained by John Oxx. He was purchased by Williams later that year for £26,000 and his incredible juvenile hurdling year yielded six wins and 4 placed from 10 starts. The highlight of these runs were his Grade 1 win at Punchestown and also his agonisingly narrow defeat in the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham having made all the running.

Barizan was completing an impressive 'Spring Double' for trainer Evan Williams and also for Boardsmill Stud following the success of Court Minstrel (Court Cave) in the Grade 2 Scottish Champion Hurdle in April.
