Kalanisi- 1st Crop runners catch the eye
Kalanisis 1st Boardsmill
crop are now 4 year olds in 2013 and already we have seen some eye
catching runs from his 1st runners. Both his 1st two runners were
just touched off in their respective Junior Bumpers.
First to represent him was
his daughter Ifits A Fiddle who made her debut at Towcester
on November 8th in the Juvenile Fillies Bumper. Trained by Richard
Phillips for Jersey based owner/breeder Mrs Bunny Roberts, Ifits
A Fiddle ran a really game race and battled all the way up the stiff
Towcester finish to go down by just ¼ length despite being
bumped inside the final furlong. This was a very promising first
run and the form has been franked since as the winner landed her
next race also in a Newbury bumper carrying a penalty.
Kalanisis 2nd runner
from his initial Boardsmill crop was the 3yo gelding Kalucci
who made his debut at Wetherby on December 8th. This was a well
contested Juvenile Bumper and there were plenty of fancied runners
in the 15 strong field. Kalucci took up the running 3f out and was
headed inside the final furlong but battled all the way to the line
and was staying on again at the finish, going down by just ¾
length. Interestingly, the winner Master Red was sold
for £100,000 to Donald McCain at the following weeks Brightwells
Sale at Cheltenham.
Kalucci was due to re-appear in the prestigious 4yo Listed Bumper
at Cheltenham on New Years Day, but unfortunately this meeting
was abandoned. Kalucci was bred by prominent Westmeath breeder Cathal
Ennis out of the good race mare Anno Luce. We eagerly await his
All positive signs from Kalanisis
1st Boardsmill representatives- heres looking forward to a
prosperous new year!
