Kalanisi Chasing more success

Kalanisi’s impressive strike rate of winning chasers continued in November with the victory of Act Of Kalanisi at Leicester on November 19th. Now the sire of 6 winners from 11 runners over fences, Kalanisi must have one of the best strike rates amongst his peers.

Act Of Kalanisi was recording his 7th career win and his trainer Dr Richard Newland spoke with admiration of him after his latest victory, stating that ‘he loved the game’. Rated 136 over hurdles and now 135 over fences, this 6 year old is a truly consistent sort and hopefully there will be a big chase win for him in the not too distant future.

Also flying the chasing flag for her sire in November was Valmari who we wrote about in October following her chasing debut success. Her two subsequent runs have proved that she could potentially be one of the best mares in the novice chasing division this season. Her 2nd run over fences saw her chase home Houblon Des Obeaux, who subsequently went on to land the Grade 2 Rising Stars Novice Chase at Wincanton and is now rated 153. For her next start, she was pitched in at the deep end against the geldings in the Grade 2 Berkshire Novices Chase at Newbury. Despite being the lowest rated and outsider of the field, she made all the running and was jumping brilliantly in the lead. Turning into the straight, she had all her rivals under pressure other than the hot favourite Dynaste. She put in another bold leap, but unfortunately crumbled on landing and fell. Whilst she may not have beaten the favourite, she was definitely on course to be placed and get some valuable black type. Thankfully she got up after her fall and was reported to be ok afterwards. Hopefully, this fall won’t have affected her confidence and we look forward to her reappearance as will many others, as she gained a lot of admirers for her efforts at Newbury.
