Impressive Leopardstown winner for Court Cave

Court Cave sired his 1st winner under NH rules when the highly impressive Whodoyouthink romped to victory on St Stephen’s Day 2009 at Leopardstown.

Having run well when placed in his initial two hurdles outings, Whodoyouthink was sent off the well backed favourite for the Bord Na Mona Clean Water 4yo Maiden Hurdle. His rider Paddy Flood elected to make all the running and putting in an impressive round of jumping, the result was never in doubt. The Oliver McKiernan owned and trained gelding romped to a 22 length win over his rivals who included the 3 time bumper winner Universal Truth, trained by DK Weld. Interestingly, the time of the race was faster than both the 5yo maiden hurdle and the handicap hurdle on the same card.

Whodoyouthink is from the 1st crop of the regally bred Court Cave who is a son of Sadlers Wells and the Irish Oaks winning filly Wemyss Bight. Court Cave is a full brother to the 4 time Group 1 winner Beat Hollow who stands at Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket and is already a Group 1 sire himself. Also closely related to Court Cave is the young Group 1 Sire sensation that is Oasis Dream and also the highly promising young French based sire Martaline.

Court Cave retired to Boardsmill Stud as a 3 year old and was un-raced due to an injury sustained to a hind fetlock whilst in training as a two year old. He has already sired a winner on the flat.

Whodoyouthink hails from a female line that has been associated with Boardsmill Stud for many years. His un-raced dam Glen’s Encore is by former Boardsmill great Orchestra and her dam Glen’s Pride is by another past Boardsmill sire in Furry Glen. Glen’s Encore is a full sister to the Grade 2 winning race mare Glen’s Music and Whodoyouthink is her 2nd winner. Her other winner is the Grade 2 winning and Grade 1 placed hurdler Whatuthink, also owned and trained by McKiernan.

Bred by Peter Greaney, an American based Irishman, Whodoyouthink has a 3 year old full sister in training with Claire O’Connell who looks after Greaney’s bloodstock in Ireland. Glen’s Encore is currently in foal to Kalanisi.

Court Cave almost sired a 2nd winner from as many runners when Courtly Conduct was just touched off in a bumper at Down Royal on December 27th. Trained by Mark Roper for owner/breeder Peter Newell, Courtly Conduct tried to peg back long time leader Yes Tom but was beaten by a length and the pair impressively pulled 19 lengths clear of the 3rd. On his form to date, Courtly Conduct shouldn’t take long to register a victory.
