More Black Type Success for KALANISI
Kalanisi sired yet another black type winner as Alaivan bolted
up in the LISTED Lenebane Stakes at Roscommon on Monday 6th July.
Alaivan was always travelling well under Mick Kinane and when asked
to assert in the home straight, he powered clear of his 5 rivals
to register a facile 3 and a half length success from the Aidan
OBrien trained Von Jawlensky.
This was the Aga Khan owned geldings second success from
just 4 starts and he was also placed 2nd in the 10 furlong Group
3 Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh on his 3rd outing. On that occasion
he was beaten just a short head by Grand Ducal. Given he only made
his debut at the end of March this year, there is likely to be a
lot more improvement in this gelded son of Kalanisi.
Alaivan is the 5th foal out of the winning Ela-Mana-Mou mare Alaya.
She has already produced two other winners including Alayan
whose 5 wins includes the Leopardstown 2000 Guineas trial. Alaya
who is a half sister to the Irish Derby winner Alamshar,
has a colt foal by Oratario at foot and is currently in foal to
Epsom Derby winner Authorised. Incidentally, Alayas
only un-raced produce of racing age to date is her 2003 filly by
Indian Danehill. Named Aladiyna, she is currently in
foal to Kalanisi and therefore carrying a three parts brother or
sister to Alaivan. A shrewd mating choice by owners Larry and Anne
Gleeson who bought Aladiyna in November 2006 for €20,000.
