Son of Kalanisi realises €115,000 at Arqana Sale

A 3 year old son of Kalanisi realised the second highest price at the Arqana Horses In Training Sale in France on July 2nd. Bought by Sean Tiernan’s Peak Bloodstock on behalf of Alan and Ann Potts, ‘Darban’ realised €115,000 and will go into training with Jean Paul Gallorini. Offered by the Aga Khans Studs, Darban had been placed in all 3 of his outings on the flat when trained by Alain De Royer Dupre.

Standing 16.1 h.h., Darban was pin pointed as one of the highlights of the sale in all the media previews and he didn’t disappoint. All the major UK and French National Hunt buyers were interested and in the end Alan and Ann Potts proved most determined and added their purchase to the growing list of horses who the owners will now keep in training in France.

Kalanisi’s store horses also in strong demand

It was very evident at the recent store sales, the high regard that buyers hold for Kalanisi’s offspring as his only 3 offspring catalogued for sale, sold for an average of €37,000.

His only offering at Doncaster was purchased by Bobby O’Ryan for £30,000. O’Ryan later said he was one of the nicest horses of the sale and will possibly be offered for re-sale at one of the National Hunt Breeze Up sales.

Kalanisi’s only two offerings at Goffs Land Rover Sale also attracted a lot of attention. A 3 year old half brother to Glencove Marina realised €36,000 and was purchased by Eugene McDermott who stated that his purchase was ‘a lovely horse with plenty of size’.

Also at Goffs, a 3 year old gelding offered from John Banahan’s Ridge Manor Stables was purchased for €40,000 by David Minton of Highflyer Bloodstock, who was acting on behalf of trainer Nicky Henderson.
