Base Player hits the right note!

Boardsmill Stud’s recent run of success continued in Navan on Sunday, 16 March 2008, as the impressive ‘Base Player’ ran out winner of the ‘Discover Meath (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race’ on his racecourse debut.

Settled towards the rear for most of the race, Base Player made his move through the field before the home turn and was travelling best of all coming down the descent at the top of the straight. He quickly asserted under Andrew Duff and powered up the hill away from previous bumper winners Judge Roy Bean and Laisse Viern. Interestingly, it was this same winners’ bumper that was won by Brave Inca in 2003!

Winning trainer Denise Foster said “He had shown us ability at home and will be better on better ground. He will now head for the Goffs Land Rover Bumper at Punchestown. He's the first horse I've trained for Edward Campbell, who is away on holiday," said Foster.

Bred by Boardsmill Stud, ‘Base Player’ was sold at the 2007 Goffs Land Rover Sale. He is now the 6th winner from the Orchestra mare Theatral. Base Player is a half brother to the Grade 3 winning Juvenile Hurdler ‘Spirit Dancer’ who won 6 races in total. Theatral still has two year old and yearling geldings both by Boardsmill Sire ‘Court Cave’ and is currently carrying to Court Cave again. She is due to be covered by ‘Kalanisi’ this year.

This is a third generation Boardsmill graduate as Base Player’s grandam was the Deep Run mare Roselita who won a 2 year old maiden at The Curragh when trained by former Curragh trainer ‘Brian Malone’. She was purchased after this by Boardsmill Stud as a broodmare prospect.
