Recent Results of Boardsmill Graduates

1st January 2008- The Boardsmill bred Niche Market (’01 gelding by Presenting ex Juresse) finished first past the post in the Thurlestone Hotel Novices Chase at Exeter. Unfortunately he was demoted to 2nd place having caused some interference to the 130 Rated Leading Authority in the final stages of the race. This was an excellent run from Niche Market who was the outsider of the field and followed his excellent 4th place finish in the Grade 2 December Novices Chase at Lingfield on December 15th. This is clearly a horse on the upgrade and it was interesting to hear connections talk about the 4 mile Chase at Cheltenham Festival as a possible target in March.

26th December 2007 - Boardsmill graduate ‘Mourne Rambler’ (02 gelding by Anshan ex Bettyhill) ran out a most impressive winner of the Down Royal Bumper on St Stephens Day. Bought as a foal by Boardsmill Stud, this imposing individual was sold privately in September ’06 and went into training with Tony Martin. A half brother to the high class chaser Ground Ball and also the Becher Chase winner Mr Pointment (currently ante-post favourite for Aintree Grand National), this gelding has a bright future ahead of him. Watch this space….!

15th December 2008 - Niche Market (’01 gelding by Presenting ex Juresse) ran a brilliant race to be just denied 3rd place in the Grade 2 December Novices Chase at Lingfield. This was just his 3rd run over fences and he was 50/1 outsider of the field. Niche Market is the 2nd foal out of the Boardsmill bred Jurado mare ‘Juresse’. Juresse was trained by John Fowler her sole victory came in a maiden hurdle in Dundalk. Her first foal is the 2000 Anshan Gelding ‘Rock On Tom’ who has won a bumper and a Chase for Noel Meade but unfortunately is on the sidelines at present. Her 2004 gelding realised €75,000 at the Derby Sale in 2007 and was bought by Aidan Murphy.

9th December 2007 - Cloth Fair (02 Filly by Old Vic ex Mill Lady) finished a somewhat disappointing 3rd in the Bewleys Hotels & ITBA Fillies Bonus Bumper at Punchestown. Having started odds-on favourite for this race following some impressive previous bumper form, Cloth Fair was expected to land this valuable pot. However, the very testing ground was much to her dislike and hopefully a bumper win on better ground is forthcoming.

17th November 2007 - Cloth Fair (’02 Filly by Old Vic ex Mill Lady) finished a never nearer 2nd in the Five Day Festival Stars Of Tomorrow Bumper at Punchestown behind the useful Chasing Cars. This was a very encouraging seasonal debut and the Racing Post described her run as follows:

“Undoubtedly the runner-up Cloth Fair was set a very demanding task indeed as she was practically last at halfway until she began to make very rapid progress inside the last half-mile. She still had a mountain to climb as he was about six lengths off the winner turning in and there was no way she could give such a start to a decent horse like the winner. To be beaten only a length was quite a performance in the circumstances.”
